Cooper Harrington, wide receiver out of Birmingham's Briarcrest Christian, has been waiting for his opportunity for a long time. "I can't wait to play for the town of Hattiesburg and for the opportunity to play at a big time program," he said.
For Martez Thompson, it has been a winding road, but one that has led him back to Hattiesburg where he wanted to be all along. "I am most excited to be playing for my home town and being close to home," he said. "I am so glad I'll be able to give my family the chance to watch me play."
Thompson committed to Southern Miss from MGCCC, where he played corner back. He has already signed his LOI and is enrolled at Southern Miss this semester to get a jump on spring football.
For out of towner Ed Wilkins, the time couldn't come soon enough. The wide receiver from McDonough, GA is ready to get on campus. "Getting to wear that black and gold with pride and playing for the Hattiesburg community is what I am most excited about," he said.
Other commits still solid on Southern Miss are Concord, California's Ricky Lloyd, who put up record setting numbers in the state. Although he is being sought after by other schools in the west, Lloyd is sticking with his original commitment and heading south to Hattiesburg next fall.
For walk on Chris Carter, it is a chance to do something special. I will be working hard for all USM fans and bringing them a C-USA championship back to Hattiesburg," he said. Carter played at MGCCC as well, and is enrolled at Southern Miss and ready to begin the next phase. He is expected to compete at center.
GoldenEaglePride.com will continue to track our current commits, as well as looking for any tidbits about who else may sign on with the Golden Eagles. Stay tuned.
