Schuffert Glad To Be An Eagle

Southern Miss has picked up a second commitment following the big weekend. To learn of the details, click below to find out the good news. has learned that Lance Schuffert has committed to Southern Miss. Schuffert originally was commited to UAB, but made the switch after a visit to Hattiesburg.

He talked with this afternoon, and spoke of the special feeling he had while on campus.

"I had a real good time, the punter Peter Boehme hosted me," he said.

"I just had a real good time, I met all the guys and just felt like I fit right in. I loved seeing the facilities and hung out with the coaches. It was just a great time."

It was not the only time Schuffert had been on campus. "I came last summer to an elite camp," he said. "When I came here this summer I had a lot of interest and loved it. I'm just glad things worked out so I could be here."

In early January, the long snapper had committed to UAB, but always had Southern Miss in mind. "This summer, when I came to Southern Miss there was just something that made me feel at home here," he said. "That certainly carried over to this weekend, it just felt like a big family here."

"I have always wanted to go there, and this week Coach Kap gave me a call and said, I think it might work out, we had a snapper that left."

How do the coaches plan on using Schuffert? "I am going to be a deep snapper," he said. "I am not as big as you want a Division One deep snapper, and that is fine with me. I am glad to get to play and compete."

Schuffert is 6'1, 245lbs, and is eager to get started at Southern Miss. Recommended Stories
