It has been a big day for Southern Miss football recruiting. We have learned that C.J. Perry, linebacker from Bessemer (AL) has pledged his services to Southern Miss.
"My team and I went down to campus for the 7 on 7 tournament," he said. "We went down there, won all our games up to the championship. We were proud of the way we competed with the bigger schools and we got some good work."
After being on campus for a second time, Perry knew this is where he wanted to spend his college career.
"I have been liking Southern Miss for a while now, they have been in my top 3 for a while now," he said. "When I went down there my first time with my dad and cousin, I felt like I was at home."
"When I sat down and talked about it with them, I feel like it was the right place for me. I love the place, it felt like home, and so I was ready to pull the plug. I called Coach Fedora today and told him I was ready to commit."
Perry also talked about how the coaches plan to use him. "I am going to play linebacker," he said. "I will fit in as the bandit, defensive end and linebacker. They also may use me as an inside linebacker as well."
Perry is very firm about his commitment too. "My plans for the rest of the summer are still the same," he said. "I will work out hard, maybe go to camps even though I know people will come after me hard."
"I am going to stick with Southern Miss and ride it out. I will get ready to go down there and take care of business."
Perry is focused now on getting his team ready to win a state championship his senior year. He makes the second commitment today to the Golden Eagles, joining Natchez standout "Tip" McKenzie.
Southern Miss has added a second commitment today. The Bessemer linebacker, who was on hand for the 7 on 7 Brett Favre tournament, committed to Southern Miss this afternoon. In this interview, he talks about his decision and where the coaches plan to use him.
