Another day, another commitment along the line for the Golden Eagles.
Southern Miss is on a roll in recruiting, and today they added a huge offensive tackle in Devin Gordon.
On an unofficial visit, Gordon knew while he was on campus that he had found the right fit for him.
"I loved how they have every surrounded, the facilities, study hall and everything is just real close together," he said.
"They take real pride in academics just like they do football, and graduation is important to me just as is playing football. They have one of the highest graduation rates in the nation."
Gordon enjoyed his visit and talked about some of the things he was able to do today.
"I toured the facilities and the campus, and they showed me the dorms I'd be in my freshman year, and the apartments I'd be in the years after that," he said.
"I also talked with Coach Adams who was over my recruitment and I met with the offensive line coach and head coach today."
What did the coaches tell Gordon about his future role on the team?
"They said that they had a guard and center already commited, and they wanted me to play tackle," he added.
"They didn't say if I would play or wouldn't play, but they did say that they are not scared to play a freshman, so if I come in and work hard we'll see what could happen. That was big for me, I like that."
Gordon is happy to have the process behind him now and his future secure. He'll head back and get ready for his senior season and fall camp opening up soon.
"It feels good, it is sure a lot of stress relief," the big tackle said.
Gordon is a smart, soft spoken player who will bring great athletic ability for a big man. He could be an anchor along the offensive line for years to come.
