Eagles Continue Prep For Houston

The Eagles received a big lift when running back Desmond Johnson returned from injury. Now the star running back and his teammates are heading to Houston for the Conference USA Championship game. Johnson talked about the match-up with GoldenEaglePride.com after practice.

As relaxed as the players seemed after practice Wednesday, a casual observer would never know the magnitude of the championship game Saturday at Houston.

"We were our usual selves, laughing and having a good time," running back Desmond Johnson said.

"We know what is at stake, and we'll be ready. We know what it takes to get ready for the big game, but we are still having a lot of fun and enjoying playing another week."

Johnson, injured in the first game of the season, has slowly worked his way back and has earned more carries.

"I have been 100% since I came back from injury," he said. "It has just taken some time to knock the rust off. I'm starting to find my groove again, and I am feeling better with each game."

The bright side of the Johnson injury has been the younger players thrust into the spotlight and asked to carry the load.

"Jamal and Jeremy have done a great job in our absence," he added. "When Hardy and I went down, we had to rely on them to do the job. Kendrick and I have just tried to help them and encourage them anyway we could."

Johnson had a simple message when asked about the Cougar defense he'll be seeing Saturday. "They are good up front, but we are going over there to win," he said.

"We are ready, we are excited, and we are going to bring home that championship."
