He made it official today.
"I got to hang out with the players and everything, and that was real good," he said. "I fit in real good with them and when I had my meeting with Coach Johnson I made my commitment with Southern Miss."
He talked about the decision making process.
"I was being recruited by Arkansas State and Louisiana Tech, and it came down to those two," he said. "Nothing taken away from Louisiana Tech, those guys are great coaches and they are going places, but the more I was thinking about Southern Miss the more my mind was pulled just to them as the only place I was thinking about.
"I knew in my mind Southern Miss was the only place I wanted to be."
Growing up an Eagle fan, it was a perfect fit.
"It is a dream come true," he said. "Sometimes I am surprised that I get to play for Southern Miss next year."
The coaches plan on using Freeman at the defensive end spot, and they want to bulk him up to around 270. He said it might be a linebacker type but mostly just at defensive end.
"My host was Brandon Fransesconi," he said. "We hung out with some of the players, and he talked with me about his decision and that he loves it here and everyone is just family here."
"As much as I've been a fan I didn't realize how cool everyone was and it just felt like a big family to me."
Freeman said he plans to work on his strength and his get-off as a defensive lineman.
He makes the 6th commitment in what was a very successful weekend for the Golden Eagles.
