Southern Miss was selected today to the NCAA basketball tournament for the first time since 1991. The Eagles will be playing Kansas State in the East bracket as a nine seed.

Coach Eustachy has Southern Miss back in the Big Dance. It has taken longer than some thought, but he has done a great job with the program that was validated today with a trip to the NCAA tournament.

Southern Miss (25-8) now prepares for a first round match-up with Kansas State (21-10). The Wildcats have had a great season under head coach Frank Martin.

The Golden Eagles had a 9-4 record against teams in the top 100 and a 4-4 record against teams in the top 50. The defeated South Florida, Ole Miss, Memphis, and Arizona State to pad the resume for the selection committee.

Southern Miss has made only two previous appearances in the NCAA tournament in its history. If the Eagles could pull off a win, it would be the first win in the Big Dance ever.
