Bridges Hearing From Four

Bridges Hearing From Four

Southern Miss is making recruiting south Mississippi a priority. A local athlete is hearing from four schools, but is Southern Miss in the mix? GoldenEaglePride.com has your recruiting update right here.

Tony Bridges profile

Bridges is a sleeper prospect who is right in the Golden Eagle's back yard. The speedster from Hattiesburg High talked about what he's been up to this spring.

"I have been running track, and I'm doing real well too," he said. "We had district today, and I compete in the long and high jump and won it. I'll be going to state and I'm real excited about it."

He also competes in the 4 X 100.

Bridges says that track is just a way to improve on his first love, football.

"Oh yes, track is just a way to improve my game and improve my speed and leaping ability for football," he added.

So, who is the wide-out interested in when it comes to recruiting?

"Well, Memphis came to see me today, and they want me to make a visit to their campus," he said. "I liked the coaches there, and I hope to take a visit up there this summer.

"I am also hearing from Mississippi State and Southern Miss has been talking to me ever since the new coaching staff came in."

His relationship with Coach Buckley is from playing against him for several years.

"Coach Buckley has known all about me," he said. "Southern Miss is the local team and I've known and liked them for a long time. I am keeping all of my options open though, and I'll see where the offers come in from."

He is also hearing on a regular basis from UL-Lafayette.

"The coaches from all the schools have told me they also project me as a safety as well as possibly a wide-out," he said. "I'm really going to focus on that this summer when I go to camps."

His teammate, Brandon Acker, has also been recruited by Southern Miss. Could they be a package deal?

"We've talked about going to the same school," he said. "When a coach comes to see him, they also talk to me. We are both hearing from the same coaches and same schools. It would be fun for us to go to school together if it works out."

The junior says he can bring a lot to a school at the next level. "My speed is the most important aspect of my game," he said. "I can really get up and down the field. I also can go up and get the ball because of my athletic ability."

Bridges is also a star in basketball for the Tigers.
