Hakim Gray is an outside linebacker from Stonewall, Louisiana's North DeSoto High School. The visit from Southern Miss took him by surprise today.
"I picked up an offer from Southern Miss and ULL today," he said. "Southern Miss was a surprise because they got me out of class at school today. They told me they were going to offer me, and it was a huge shock."
Coach Fobbs was the one who was there to extend the offer to the talented defender.
"They told me they wanted to use me as a defensive end, and that they have put some of those in the NFL," he said. "It seems like a school that I'd like to go to.
"It seems like it would be fun, and it would give me a chance to play right away, get on the field, and give me the opportunity to go to the NFL."
Louisiana-Lafayette is another school hot on the trail of Gray. "I have been down there a lot," he said. "I talked with Coach Stewart and he let me know that they were going to offer me. He is supposed to be visiting our school Thursday or Friday."
For Gray, he wants to take care of his family with his college decision.
"I want to make sure my Mom is comfortable with being able to come see me play," he said. "I also want to make sure that she is happy with me being able to get a good education, that is what is most important."
Right now, Gray has four offers. He said he wants to make a decision before his senior season so he can focus directly on playing football.
