James Cox profile
Cox is a 6'1 receiver who is turning a lot of heads in the state of Alabama. He received some good news today from Southern Miss when Coach Zo came to his school.
"Coach Zo came by and he was telling me that they like me and that I have a scholarship offer from Southern Miss," he said. "I told them I was very excited about that."
He already has a connection to the school through a current Golden Eagle.
"I already know about the program because I have a friend down there in Alex Walters," he said. "I hadn't heard from them much before today to be honest, but I'll tell you, they took a real big step today in being one of my schools of consideration.
"I really am start to look a lot more that way now that they took that chance on me."
The Eagles are among many schools fighting to get his interest. "I am hearing from Auburn, Alabama, Mississippi State, Purdue, Vanderbilt, Clemson, and Ole Miss right now," he said. "I have offers from Mississippi State, Purdue, and Southern Miss now."
Right now, he is working on being more physical and in his blocking during spring practice. Coach Zo talked with him about how the Eagles would use him in the offense.
"They told me they wanted to move me around in the offense and Coach said he could see me as the X receiver, but in certain situations I could be used in the slot," he said. "I like that because that is how I am used here in our offense."
Cox is looking for a school with a solid academic program and a school where he feels at home. He is certainly one who puts academics first.
He said he plans on making a visit to Southern Miss and wants to see the campus himself. He is not sure when he'll make the trip down, however.
He does not have a timetable on his decision.
