Wilson Talks Commitment

Southern Miss has added another big defensive presence in the middle. Jonathan Wilson of Salem High in Tylertown has made his decision and he talks about why he chose the Eagles with GoldenEaglePride.com.

Jonathan Wilson is a huge defensive tackle who was beginning to make some ripples across Mississippi with his strong play at camps. With the Bulldogs of Mississippi State starting to show him some interest, the coaches really turned up the efforts to keep him close to home.

It worked out well for both parties.

"I was really hearing a lot from other schools, but I just knew Southern Miss is the right fit for me," he said in an interview with GoldenEaglePride.com.

"I loved the defensive system, I love the program, and it is close to home. All that and I know I'll have a chance to play at the next level. The Eagles have had some great defensive lineman and I want to continue that."

He could also end up playing some offensive line too for the Eagles.

"They said they could see me on offense too, so we'll see how it works out," he said. "Either way, I just want to play."

Wilson said he'll spend the rest of the summer working on his speed.

"I want to get faster and of course, get stronger before I play at the next level," he said. "The coaches said they see me in the middle at defensive tackle, so I'm ready to get there and show what I can do."

Wilson was recruited by Coach Tucker Peavy, and lists him as another big reason he decided to commit.
