"It didn't take long for me to make a decision because I knew Southern Miss was the place I wanted to be," he said. "When they offered after camp, I was thrilled.
"I feel like it is the perfect fit. It is a big time program that wins, has great coaches, and a big time defensive program."
It was also a blooming relationship with Coach West that helped him make his decision.
"I loved Coach West," he said. "He taught me so much just in one day at camp. I think he'll be a great guy to play for, and he was a huge reason that I committed to Southern Miss."
Davis said he'll be used as a linebacker for the Eagles, though he has the speed to play safety. He said the coaches want to bulk him up and think he'll excel at LB.
"Making this decision just feels like the weight of the world is off my shoulders," he added. "I'm ready for big time football, and I'm focused on getting better and getting to Southern Miss."
