Though he didn't take in many camps this summer, his play on the field so far this year has spoken volumes, and college coaches are listening.
"Things are continuing to go well for me," he said. "I am having some good offensive games. Last week I had 6 catches and one for a touchdown. We got the win 44-0 so I'm happy as long as we win."
Staples has been adding weight even through the season because he knows at the next level he'll need to be bigger and stronger.
"I am working hard during the season even in the weight room," he said. "I am keeping at it in my grades. I did get an offer from UAB and I just picked up another one from MTSU."
Jamari said he'll be taking in the game this upcoming weekend at Southern Miss when the Eagles take on Louisville.
"I am just ready to see how the whole atmosphere is," he said. "I'm excited about meeting the coaches and players. I know they have a great tradition and that is very important to me.
"I want to go somewhere that I can compete right away and that I know will have success. Southern Miss has all of that."
Staples added that he is anxious to see what can happen when he leaves to go to college. He's working very hard to make sure that dream becomes a reality.
"I'm ready to get out and make something of myself," he said. "This year is not an ending for me, but it is just a beginning.
"I am ready for some new challenges and fresh competition. I am looking for a school that has tradition and will give me a solid education in case football doesn't work out for me."
Right now, Staples says he is wide open. He's thinking he has a good shot to pick up an offer to Southern Miss this weekend, and Ole Miss is close as well.
"I had a great visit up there with Ole Miss and they said they are close to offering me," he said. "I am going to take my visits this fall and see what happens. It is between UAB, MTSU, Southern Miss and Ole Miss right now."
