Back With The Eagles?

James Cox decommitted from Southern Miss immediately following the news of Coach Johnson being let go. He updates the latest now that Southern Miss will have a new coach in place.

James Cox got a call he wasn't expecting today.

"They got me out of class and on the phone was Coach Monken," he told tonight.

"I couldn't believe it. He told me that he wanted me to be a part of what they wanted to do at Southern Miss. He said he saw me fitting in very well to the system he's going to be bringing in."

Cox said he was thrilled to hear from him so early.

"He was excited about it man," he said. "He sounded like a take charge guy who knew what he wanted to do. I didn't know where I stood with Southern Miss, but now its Southern Miss at the top for me."

The talented WR from Tuscaloosa said he is still taking his visit on the 14th, and will make his decision after that. He's still hearing from UAB, Purdue, UCF, and a few other schools.

"Southern Miss is the one visit I am taking," he said. "I don't have plans anywhere else right now."

He's also gotten close to current Southern Miss prospect Tere Calloway.

"That is my boy right there," he said, laughing. "I'm trying hard to get him to the deep south, because I told him that is where they play real football."

Cox said he's still open, but from his comments, the Eagles are in great shape to get him back in the fold.

"When Coach Monken told me he wanted me to help him turn it around, I got real excited," he said. "That is what I want to do, get it turned back around."

We'll have a follow up from his visit with Southern Miss soon. Recommended Stories
