Could juco DL follow coach to UK?
"I haven't heard from Kentucky since their previous coaching staff was there, but our D-Line coach, Jimmy Brumbaugh, just got a job up there, so I'm expecting to hear something from him pretty soon," said East Mississippi Community College standout Lauren Jackson. "I think they're going to offer me."
And if UK does?
"They'd be in there with Iowa State, Florida, Florida State, Tennessee and Mississippi State," he said. "I've enjoyed playing for coach Brumbaugh. He's taught me a lot while I've been here."
He admitted he did not know much about new UK head coach Mark Stoops and defensive coordinator D.J. Eliot, but said he was impressed that the Wildcats were able to lure the coaches from Florida State.
"They come from a real strong program, especially for defense," he said. "I like that."
Auburn, Texas Tech and Missouri have also been showing interest at various stages in his recruitment.
Jackson (6-3, 280) is originally from Meridian High School in Mississippi. The home state Bulldogs have recruited him since early in his career, including much of that legwork done by former MSU and UK assistant coach David Turner, but he considers himself to be "wide open" at this stage in his recruitment.
"I've got time to take some visits and find out where the best place for me is," Jackson said. "I'll be taking some of those in January."
He has yet to take any official visits.
Jackson, who had 23 tackles, two tackles for loss and one sack in helping lead EMCC to a Top 10 NJCAA ranking this season, is on track to graduate and join his new team next summer. He'll have three years remaining to complete two years of eligibility.
