Then, in the JuCo ranks he was recruited hard by Coach Johnson's staff and committed to them just a few months ago.
Now that another change has happened, where does that leave Watford?
I caught up with him last night to talk about the latest.
"Well I had started playing basketball here at ECCC in the first semester, but when we come back I'm not going to be playing anymore," he said.
"It was just something I was doing for fun, and it kept me in shape. Now though I'm going to start getting ready for football and next fall."
He has hired a personal trainer and has been working hard with him on speed especially. He's also working on route running as well.
What has he heard from the new staff?
"I haven't talked to them yet myself," he said. "I was trying to see if Coach Buckley had left because he was the one who recruited me and the one I was talking to.
"When I get back to school I'll catch up with them. Right now I am still committed verbally to Southern Miss."
Watford is still hearing from a few schools. South Alabama, UAB, and several small schools in Alabama are still pursuiing him. He's taking visits to UAB and South Alabama in January, and said he'll be coming to Southern Miss on January 25th.
"When Fedora left the entire coaching staff left with him, so I was trying to see if the entire staff left with Coach Johnson too," he said.
"One of the new coaches called my coach, I'm not sure who it was, but he told them I could still come down to Southern Miss and I had a place but I haven't talked to them directly."
We'll continue to follow up with Watford and the rest of the Eagle commits and prospects as we head toward signing day.
