Davis Updates The Latest

Coach Monken and his staff hit the ground running in recruiting. Has he kept Murrah offensive lineman James Davis on board? Here is the story and interview with the big man.

James Davis, OL, of Murrah High in Jackson, MS, committed to the Eagles back in the summer. Now that a new staff has taken over, there are always question marks about if current commits will be kept on board.

Davis gives us the very latest in this interview Sunday night.

"Well I just got back not to long ago from the North/ South all star game in Mississippi," he said. "It was a great challenge being up against some of the best in the state.

"I really had a lot of fun though, they treated us real well and we all had a great week of practice."

Davis said he's now just focused on one thing.

"I'm just trying to get bigger and stronger," he added. "I'm looking forward to playing at the next level, so I know I have to get better. Especially my footwork, that's real important to me."

The good news for Davis is that he'll be able to still attend the school he's wanted from the beginning.

"I always wanted to go to Southern Miss, and I'm still committed there," he said. "I was nervous in the transition of a new staff. I was hoping they'd want me around.

"Coach Todd Monken called me and said they want me to stay and they want me to be an Eagle. We had a great talk. I really think he's the guy that's going to get Southern Miss back on the winning track."

The big lineman said no other schools are in consideration for him.

"I'm not thinking about anywhere else, I'm fully committed to Southern Miss," he said. "I'm not taking any visits anywhere else. I plan on taking one official in January, to Hattiesburg."
