Eagles Extend Offer To Talented Receiver

Eagles Extend Offer To Talented Receiver

Southern Miss has always been active in recruiting the state of Alabama, and they've been busy lately with some new offers in the past few days. One Montgomery, AL wide receiver talks about the offer the Eagles extended and where he stands early on in the process.

Charles Standberry, WR, from Carver HS in Montgomery, AL, was pretty bummed about his basketball team's loss in the semifinals yesterday.

His disappointed was curbed quickly though when he found out he had received his first football offer when his coaches told him Southern Miss had called.

"I was so excited after I heard that, it just really meant so much to me," he said in an interview with GoldenEaglePride.com.

"I had talked to Coach Woz a few months ago, he had come by my school. They saw my film and they decided to offer me and I was very happy and proud they took that chance on me."

Charles said he already had the Eagles on his radar before they made the offer.

"I really like Southern Miss, that is one of my schools that I've been interested in," he said. "With them going to the spread four WR offense, I think I could see myself there in that offense."

Standberry will be taking in Southern Miss on March 23rd. He talked about his strengths as a receiver.

"I can go get the ball as a receiver and my height helps a lot," he said. "I'm a guy that makes plays and can go deep at any time as well."

Though Southern Miss is his first offer, he's also hearing from several schools including UCLA, Auburn, Troy, and Kentucky.

For now, Standberry will be working out with his football team. He starts Monday working with his teammates as he prepares for his senior season. He said that offer just drives him to work even harder this spring.

"It really feels great to have that offer in," he said. "A couple of my teammates have offers already and they were joking on me, and I'm just really excited about it.

"I'm very appreciative and humbled too. I'm just going to keep working so I can be the best player I can be for my team next fall."

Standberry is also a cousin of former Eagle Arsenio Favor.
