Brandon Fry is a 6'2, 185lb left-handed pitcher from Nease HS in Jacksonville, Florida. Originally from Ohio, he signed with Pearl River CC after his time at Nease, and now has found his future college home when he committed to Southern Miss several days ago.
"The coaches here both went to Southern Miss, and so there was already a connection there," he said in an interview with GoldenEaglePride.com.
"The coaching staff at Southern Miss came and watched me in the fall and a couple of weeks ago they called me and said they wanted me to come up for a visit.
"I went up there and loved everything about it. It was just the right place for me. Loved the coaches and just knew that's where I was supposed to be."
The future Eagle pitcher went on to describe how everything just seemed right when he was there on campus.
"The atmosphere of the games was incredible, they have great fans," he added. "Southern Miss has awesome facilities, and its just a great school too."
Fry has been used both out of the bullpen and recently as a starter for Pearl River. He said they opportunity is there to be used as both for Southern Miss as well.
"They just told me that they needed a lefty and they like my intensity and mentality," he said. "They will try to use me as a starter if I can earn a spot, or they might use me in late innings to set up or close."
Fry is having a great sophomore season for the local junior college.
"It is going real well, a lot better than I expected," he said. "I have been doing really well as a starter after being moved there from being the closer.
"Playing at this level is going to help me next year at Southern Miss. I've been able to play against really good talent and I'll come in knowing what to expect and can contribute right away."
Fry's future team, the Golden Eagles, travel to Mobile tonight to take on the Auburn Tigers.
