Southern Miss hosted close to 400 prospects, coaches, and families on campus this Saturday for junior day. Coach Antoine was one who brought two prospects down for junior day, and he gave us a unique perspective of what made this day so successful.
"I brought Tae Thibodeaux with me and one of my former players Collin Brown to Hattiesburg yesterday," he informed us.
"I thought the event was great. Coach Monken coached me while he was at Louisiana Tech, so I know what he's all about.
"You could just sense the enthusiasm with what is going on there. I saw a couple of the kids and you could see how things are going in the right direction. These coaches showed how they are eager to get out there with these players and eager to get them going.
"It was a tremendous turnout and its just good to see everything going the way it is right now."
Coach detailed some parts of the day that really stood out to him.
"We were able to go in the weight room, and what I've never seen before is the strength coach was in there with current players showing them how they do their lifts," he said.
"Then we got to go on the field and see the coaches go through what it is like in some drills. They players loved the highlight tape of Southern Miss, and what they really loved was being able to talk to the current players in the panel. That was very helpful.
"Being around current players and being able to bounce questions off them was tremendous."
Both Brown and Thibodeaux have been hearing from the coaching staff at Southern Miss, and Coach Antoine feels like an offer could be coming real soon.
"They said they'll be by to visit and they'd be following up with them, so that's a real good sign about things to come for these guys," he said. "I know both of these guys are very interested in Southern Miss.
"It was just a great day. It was one of the best Junior days I have been a part of."
