Eagles Get In on Georgia QB

The Southern Miss coaching staff has been very busy in the early recruiting season as they track down talent for the 2014 class. They recently offered another quarterback, this time one in Georgia. He took a few minutes to talk about the new offer and what he's looking for in a future program.

Cole Garvin is a 6'1, 195lb QB with a strong and accurate arm. He plays for Sandy Creek High School in Georgia, and he's really starting to get a lot of interest from Southern Miss.

The feeling is mutual.

"Southern Miss has been a school I've had my eye on for a while when I first heard Coach Monken was going there," he told GoldenEaglePride.com.

"I loved his offenses at Oklahoma State, and when I saw he was going to Southern Miss I immediately was hoping I'd get an offer there."

Garvin is being recruited by Coach Thacker.

"Coach Thacker sent me a message today, and told me that I had an offer," he explained. "I called him and we talked about it. I tried Coach Monken but was not able to get up with him, so I'll try and get up with him tomorrow.

"Coach Thacker sounded very excited when we talked on the phone. He said they really like me so of course that was exciting for me to hear."

Middle Tennessee just offered him as well tonight. He also holds offers from Georgia State, Marshall, UAB, and Western Kentucky.

He's a QB who will fit in well with a system that loves to throw the ball around.

"I try to manage the game as smoothly and fast paced as possible," he said. "I have a strong arm and want to be a very accurate passer. I like to win too, that is something that I have, a real drive to be successful."

He also talked about what is important to him in regards to a future program.

"I want to major in business," he said. "I want to make sure I get a good education and have a great relationship with the coaches. I don't want a staff that will leave right away, and I want to play. The depth chart is something I'll certainly consider."

Garvin said he has two more visits lined up this spring, to UAB and Marshall, then he's going to shut it down until the summer. He said he certainly plans to come visit Southern Miss in the summer.
