As Coach Berry puts it, "The MLB draft is just part of college baseball, there is nothing you can do about it," he said. "There are some guys you just don't go after because they are untouchable, but others you just have to take that chance."
The Eagles took a chance on LHP from Pear River CC Brandon Fry, who today informed GoldenEaglePride.com that he would be taking his opportunity at the pro level.
"I'm going to sign with the San Diego Padres," Fry informed us.
"I feel like it is the best opportunity for me personally at this point in my career."
Fry was drafted by San Diego in the 18th round.
"It was really surreal," he said. "This year was geared towards getting here but when it actually happened I was still in complete shock."
He detailed his upcoming plans just before boarding a plane out west.
"I'm flying out to Arizona right now to go to summer ball until September," he said. "Once I get back I plan on doing one semester at Southern Miss."
Fry, a talented LHP, joins Jake Drehoff (current Eagle) and Christian Talley (USM signee) in Golden Eagles getting drafted.
The Eagles send their support of Brandon and his career at the next level.
