Will Edwards is a 6'2, 200lb QB from Briarcrest Christian right there in Birmingham who attended the Southern Miss camp early Friday.
Edwards has a strong arm, great pocket presence, and leadership qualities. The Birmingham native stood-out at camp in front of the coaches of Southern Miss and Alabama State today.
He took a few minutes after camp to talk about it with GoldenEaglePride.com.
"I thought it was a real good camp," the signal caller said. "The DB's really challenged us and there were a ton of athletes here."
He evaluated his own performance today.
"I thought I did real well," he said. "I felt like I was pretty accurate today but my arm was pretty fatigued. I've been throwing eight days in a row pretty hard now, but my receivers really helped me out a lot today.
Coach Arroyo took a few minutes to talk with Edwards, and he talked about that conversation.
"He said I can't have the best footwork, and even Tom Brady works on that every day," he said. "They told me I need to work on that keep the ball up and not chicken wing it.
"As far as fundamentals go, it was one of the best camps I've been to. They did a great job of teaching us and giving us pointers."
Recruiting wise, Edwards is hearing from several schools across the southeast.
"I'm talking with Middle Tennessee, Samford, and Southern Miss," he said. "I'm also hearing from UAB as well.
"My recruiting coach is Coach Woz, and he talked to me after the camp. He calls me a lot and we talk about how things are going. He said to call him and that he'd be evaluating me and keeping in touch.
"I love the coaches here. My former teammates Cooper Harrington and Kalan Reed talk about them all the time and how much they love them too.
"I really like Southern Miss. I have never had one specific school that I really loved growing up, but I just love the state of Mississippi. Southern Miss, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, they are just good southern people, and I like that a lot."
Edwards has a few other camps and will continue to work hard through the summer as he gears up for a big senior season.
He unofficially ran a 4.5 40 today at camp, showing his ability to run as well as pass.
