McGowens Talks USM Commitment

Southern Miss has added another big time talent as Davaris McGowens of Gray Prep Academy in Columbia, (SC) has pledged to Coach Tyndall and the Eagles. He took a few minutes to talk about his commitment with GoldenEaglePride.com.

Southern Miss has added another talent for the class of 2014 as they continue to stockpile talent for the future.

The latest to join the fold is 6'6, 235 G/F Davaris McGowens from Gray Academy (prep) in Columbia, SC.

The talented G/F will have 5 years to play 4 with the Golden Eagles.

"Really I just loved the coaches, the style of play, the way the coach likes guys who are tough and I feel like I'm a great fit for that system," McGowens said.

"My visit went great, I was able to tour the campus and see all the facilities. I really felt like I belonged there. I got to see a football game and went to a basketball scrimmage as well."

As with every Golden Eagle basketball commit, the coaches and their relationship with the recruits has meant everything.

"I felt like they really cared about me through the process," he said. "I love the way they push the players and always get the best out of them."

McGowens is a versatile guy who can just about do it all.

"I'm a guy who feels comfortable posting up or taking things out in the perimeter," he said. "If they need a stop I feel like I can step up and get after it on defense too.

"I'm working on my outside game and I hope to provide both for this team in the future."
