Eagles Offer South Florida Talent

Southern Miss has found some gems from Florida in past recruiting classes, and they are always looking for more from the talent rich state. They've offered talented RB Chauncey Mason, who talked about it and where he stands with GoldenEaglePride.com.

Southern Miss has dipped into South Florida and found shifty running back Chauncey Mason, who will transfer to Boynton Beach high school this year.

The talented Mason is 6'0, 180, and blazing fast. He's also the younger brother of former Auburn Tiger Tre Mason.

Mason got us up to speed on how he's spending his summer.

"I've been in the gym and on the field lately training," Mason told GoldenEaglePride.com.

"I've been with my team and we've been working hard to get to that goal which is a state championship. We have a lot of prospects on this team and feel like we can be great this year."

He also took in a few camps, but mostly has been working on his individual game there with his teammates.

"I went to FAU, Miami, and some other clinics to work on my game but nothing major," he said.

The Southern Miss Golden Eagles have taken notice and just extended an offer to the talented prospect.

"It was quite exciting," Mason said.

"They surprised me with an offer and talked to me about coming to see the school and make a visit there. They made their decision to make me an offer. I was very excited because as I looked into the school I really liked everything I saw.

"They love me at running back, but they also would like for me to play some slot and make plays from there as well."

Mason talked further about the offers he holds now.

"I have offers from Syracuse, Alcorn, and Southern Miss," he said.

"I also have interest from Miami, Duke, Michigan, and several others but I can't remember them all right now."

Mason said he doesn't have a real time table for his decision, but he does know what he's looking for in a program.

"I'm looking for a family environment and a great education," he said.

"I don't want to just be successful in football, but I also want to be successful in the classroom and get a degree. I have heard Southern Miss has a wonderful business program and that has caught my eye."
