The talented forward was seen in an AAU tournament in New Orleans with a team he plays for there. Blevins is from Arkansas but attends Bishop O'Connell High School in Arlington, Virginia.
"I knew Southern Miss was watching me there because they talked to me after my first game," he told GoldenEaglePride.com.
"I didn't play that great in the first one, but the next game I had 18 and had one of my better games. Coach Cox came up to me after the game and made me an offer."
Blevins was excited to hear from the Eagles.
"I know about the Southern Miss program, and how successful they have been lately," he said. "I want to take a visit there and see the campus.
"What is great about Southern Miss too is that it is not to far from home and my mom can come see me play."
Blevins described himself as a play maker who can be versatile on the floor.
"With my size I can score in a lot of ways," he said. "I can post up or score from the outside. That's what coaches like about my game.
"Also they like my length on the defensive end. I can put a lot of pressure on guards on the outside. I like the way Southern Miss plays defense and they said I'd be a good fit."
Blevins said he plans on visiting Southern Miss after his AAU tournament coming up in Las Vegas.
