Narrowing It Down

Southern Miss has added some offensive line help this past season from the JuCo ranks, and they are hoping to find another one from that level as well again in this class.

Mississippi Gulf Coast CC offensive tackle Martinas Rankin is a highly recruited 6'5, 285lb. standout who played his high school ball at Mendenhall.

The talented tackle knows all about the teams in Mississippi recruiting him, but he's also hearing from out of state prospective schools as well.

Even as recruiting is heating up, the big man is still focused on the season ahead.

"Right now, for me, its all about the season and our opening game Thursday night," he told GoldenEaglePride.com.

"Its a big year for us and I'm just ready to get things started."

Rankin said right now there are two schools he's hearing from the most.

"I'd have to say Oklahoma and Ole Miss I hear from more than anyone," he said.

"I do hear from Southern Miss a good bit though."

When asked about Southern Miss, Rankin said it is a school he was very familiar with.

"I always watched the program coming up and its close to home with legitimate playing time there," he said.

"I haven't ruled them out at all yet."

Rankin said the only visit he has lined up for sure is one to Oklahoma in a few weeks. He also has offers from Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Missouri, and Louisville among others.

He said he also plans to visit Ole Miss and Southern Miss this fall.
