"I just felt Southern Miss was a good fit for me," said Spivery from the George County High School field house.
R.J. was able to share the good news with a former and future teammate, Alonzo Lawrence.
"I called him before I did it," said Spivery. "He thought it would be a good decision for me because they need some receivers. If I go up there and work hard I have the chance to get some early playing time."
The chance to play close to home was an added benefit for the talented wide receiver.
"My family told me they would support me no matter what, but they are excited I going to Southern," said R.J. "They will be able to come see me play."
With his recruitment now settled, Spivery can turn his full attention towards his senior season.
"We're like 4-2 overall, but we're undefeated in the district," said R.J. "We beat Harrison Central and Biloxi. We just have a few things we need to keep working on."
