"I ended up with over 5,000 career rushing yards, and I went for over 1,500 yards for my last year, so I was real happy with my performance. That had never been done before at my school, so it was a big accomplishment for me. As a team we struggled so that was tough for my last year," he said.
Since the season ended, Hester has been focused on getting ready for playing at the next level. "Right now I am lifting weights everyday and running every day. I just want to stay in shape and get ready for that better level that I will be facing," he said. "Right now I am just continuing to maintain a high level and make myself better for what I will be coming into. I know it is going to be tough but I am going to be ready," he said.
Although Hester has been contacted by other schools, he has made sure to let them know that he is not wavering on his commitment to the Golden Eagles. "Yeah, I am still solid. I have had Auburn, Western Kentucky and Memphis trying to get me to visit," he said. "But I have let them know that I am going to be a Golden Eagle."
"I have always wanted to go to Southern Miss, and I gave them my word. Now I am just at the point where I can't wait to get there," he said.
Hester said there are many factors that contributed to his decision, and they just continue to affirm that he made the right decision. "Oh man I love it. One thing I love about it is that they have a lot of support from the surrounding area," he said. "I have been there with friends, and it just feels like home to me. I just love the environment of game days and I love the campus," he said. "I feel like there is no other place I would rather be."
The running back loves the Fedora offensive system. "I feel like I can be a dynamic back in that system. It can allow me the opportunity to make plays, and with my speed I believe I can come in and do my thing and play. I am hoping I can come out and impress and earn playing time my freshman season," he said.
A dynamic playmaker, Hester has what Southern Miss is continuing to try and build, which is speed all over the field. He is listed at 5'8, 178 lbs, but he can run with the best of them. His 4.4 40 speed is what really caught the attention of college recruiters. "I just cant wait to see how things work out," Hester said.
Hester is excited for the Golden Eagle fans to get to see him play. A high character guy and one of great faith, he wants USM fans to know where his talent comes from.
"I just want to glorify God and play my best for His glory. He has given me this opportunity and allowed me to be a part of Southern Miss, and I cant wait to get to Hattiesburg and play for Him," he said.
