McCullum Updates His Status

Recruiting is in the final stages, and coaching staffs are working hard to land the best talent around. Southern Miss is shoring up its commitments as some big weekends of visits await. Today we talk with Defensive End Dasman McCullum about his commitment, visit, and his preparations for playing at the next level.

McCullum, a big defensive end from Laurel's West Jones HS, committed to USM early before the season on July 30th. After a solid senior season, he knows he has to continue to work to prepare to play at the next level. "I have been hitting the weight room hard to gain strength. The biggest thing I need to work on is getting stronger," he said.

"I also want to improve on my speed," he said. "I know to play at the next level I've got to be bigger and faster."

When asked if he was still solid to Southern Miss, McCullum answered with a firm, "yes sir." Have any other schools been contacting you? "No sir, I am Southern Miss all the way," he said.

As so many of the commits to USM have said, McCullum says the coaching staff made him feel wanted and comfortable right away. "The biggest reason I wanted to come to Southern Miss was that the coaches just seemed like they really wanted me there," he said.

McCullum promises to bring one thing especially in his years with USM, getting after the quarterback. "If there is one thing I want fans to know about me as a player, it is that I will get to the quarterback and get sacks," he said. This is certainly good news for Golden Eagle fans.

Dasman McCullum will be taking his visit to USM this weekend.
