As the 2009-2010 basketball season approaches, Southern Miss has a lot of new faces and high expectations. In his sixth year at the helm for the Golden Eagles, head Coach Larry Eustachy hopes this is the year his team can break through with a post-season birth. The Southern Miss Golden Eagles (15-16, 5-12 C-USA) avenged their 73-61 loss at UCF back in January, by crushing the Knights 77-53 in the opening round of the C-USA tournament.   Full Story

UCF opens the Conference USA tournament Wednesday at 2:30 against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles. The Knights played Southern Miss back in January in Orlando and recorded a 73-61 victory. Find out if they are ready from the only Orlando media attending practice in Memphis.   Full Story

Now that the Conference USA regular season is officially over, it’s time for us to announce our all-C-USA teams. To no one’s surprise, the Most Outstanding Player Award goes to UCF’s dynamic shooting guard, Jermaine Taylor, who led the conference in scoring with a 26.6 ppg. average, setting a new C-USA record.   Full Story

Wednesday was another busy night of hoops in C-USA, as 10 of the 12 teams were in action. Memphis and Marshall continue to streak, as does UCF in the other direction, and SMU got a rare win on Senior night.    Full Story

It was a busy weekend in the world of C-USA hoops, and unlike the weekday games, there were no real surprises. Memphis continues to roll, UAB bounces back from their mid-week date with Memphis, UCF continues to slump, and Tulsa, Houston, and Tulane take care of business.   Full Story

The Memphis Tigers continue to flex their muscles, as they stay perfect in conference and are the hottest team in the nation with 19 consecutive wins. Rice and Marshall both recorded their first conference road victories of the season, as Rice overcame a record-setting performance by the great Jermaine Taylor. Houston and SMU were game opponents, but couldn’t seal the deal on the road.    Full Story

All 12 teams were in action Saturday which made for some exciting C-USA hoops action. Memphis was challenged, but survived, and UAB was especially impressive at home.   Full Story

Another week has gone by in the C-USA and what else is new, Memphis is undefeated. John Calipari’s Tigers are playing stifling defense and some close early season contests have turned into blowouts. Memphis has now won 52 straight C-USA games, and there’s no end to their dominance in sight.   Full Story

It was another big weekend for C-USA basketball, as all 12 teams were in action Saturday, beginning with a clash between the undefeated conference leader Memphis Tigers, and the talented Houston Cougars.   Full Story

The weather in Huntington was awful for Herd fans, as an estimated 200,000 in the Tri-State were without power due to a severe winter storm dumping sleet and ice on top of 5-6 inches of snow. While the Herd was as hot as the weather in Hattiesburg, Miss. in the first half, the second half was so cold, shooting-wise, that Southern Miss got out to a big lead and stole a 84-79 win at home from MU.   Full Story

Senior guard Jermaine Taylor (Tavares, Fla.) recorded a game-high 31 points as the UCF men’s basketball team defeated Southern Miss, 73-61, in Conference USA play at the UCF Arena Wednesday. Sophomore guard Taylor Young (Orlando, Fla.) dished out a career-high nine assists without committing a turnover for the Knights (12-6, 2-2 C-USA).    Full Story

IRVING, Texas – Coming off an appearance in the 2008 NCAA National Championship title game and an NCAA-record 38 wins, the Memphis Tigers repeat as the unanimous pre-season favorite to win the C-USA men’s basketball regular-season crown in 2008-09, according to the league’s coaches. UAB Blazer Robert Vaden, an Indiana transfer in '07, was named the men’s basketball pre-season Player of the Year.   Full Story

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall forward Tirrell Baines (Laurens, S.C.) was named a CollegeHoops.net Second Team High-Major All-Freshman selection, as voted on by staff writers, the office announced today. Baines averaged 11.5 points and 5.8 rebounds per game, the fourth and second highest totals, respectively, among Conference USA freshmen this season.   Full Story

The four top teams at the beginning of the season are also the quartet that's left standing. For the first time in the history of the NCAA tournament, the four No. 1 seeds advanced to the Final Four.   Full Story

The season ended for the University of Central Florida (16-15) on Thursday night, as they fell in the Conference USA Tournament to the fifth-seeded Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles (19-13), 68-62. The Knights played well, but Southern Miss shot the ball well and UCF couldn't consistently find its rhythm on offense.   Full Story

Knights will have to put last year's disappointing loss behind them and focus on Southern Mississippi in order to get to the Conference USA semifinals for the first time in school history.    Full Story

Southern Miss (2-1) comes to Tuscaloosa Friday night (11/23/07) to take on the Tide (2-1) at 7:00pm CST. The Golden Eagles have posted wins over Belhaven and William Carey with the lone lost coming at California.    Full Story

Auburn, Ala.--Auburn will try to improve to 8-0 in home non-conference games as the Tigers play Southern Miss in an unusual late afternoon tipoff time on Wednesday at Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum.    Full Story
